Ayhancan Impresses in Monaco

The Monte-Carlo Grand Prix, one of Monaco's biggest events, took place on 23-26 May with 195,000 spectators in attendance.
Competing in the Porsche Supercup, the Formula 1 support series, with the backing of the Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports, Spor Toto and TOSFED, national driver Ayhancan Güven made an impression among the 28 competitors on his first visit to the 3.369-metre street circuit. Watched by TOSFED President Eren Üçlertoprağı, the 21-year-old's lap times made him the fastest rookie driver in the history of the Porsche Supercup at Monaco.
In qualifying, which is vitally important on a circuit that offers little room for overtaking, Güven was 0.740 seconds off the pace and earned a place on the third row, starting sixth. A strong getaway at the start lifted him to fifth, a position he held for 16 laps as he took the lead of the rookie classification. In the second race of the season, Güven was once again the 'fastest rookie driver', and he will head into the third round of the season second in the overall championship standings and leading the rookie category.
The 2019 Porsche Supercup season continues with the third round at the Red Bull Ring in Austria on 29-30 June.
