Becce Makes Fast Start to Baja Season

The opening round of the 2019 TOSFED Baja Cup, organised by the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED) in Kocaeli on 25-26 May, ended with victory for the Mert Becce-Kaan Rıfat Karagöz crew.
Twenty-four competitors in 12 vehicles took part in the event, which covered a total of 384.2 kilometres, 218.2 of them on special stages. On the opening day the crews tackled the 41.50-kilometre Teksen stage twice, then finished the day with a spectator special stage at the Körfez Racing Circuit. On the second day they completed the demanding event by running the 66.1-kilometre Belen stage twice.
After two days of competition, Becce-Karagöz, driving a Suzuki Grand Vitara, took first place overall and also won Class 1. The Özgür Yaprak-Gürkan Yıldırım crew took second overall and won Class 2 in a Land Rover Defender, while Cenk Gürpınar-Batuhan Korkut finished third in a Suzuki Jimny. The awards for the top finishers were presented at a ceremony at the Körfez Racing Circuit after the event by Körfez Mayor Şener Söğüt and senior officials of the organisation.
The second round of the Cup will be organised by the Denizli Off-road Club (DENDOFF) in Denizli on 29-30 June. The season will continue with an event run by the Vezirköprü Off-road Club (VEZİROFF) in Vezirköprü, Samsun, on 27-28 July, and will conclude on 26-27 October with an event organised by the Bursa Alternative Sports Club (BASK) in Bursa.
