Petlas Develops Tarmac and Gravel Rally Tyres

Petlas's partnership with the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED) has given Turkey a domestic, national racing tyre brand. Motorsport, which reflects the competitive spirit of Petlas, the leading domestically owned tyre brand in the Turkish tyre industry, contributes to brand perception while also generating a valuable body of data for R&D work.
Petlas, which has won attention and admiration in the motorsport community with its high-quality circuit racing tyres and has set up its own motorsport department under the name Petlas Motorsport, is expanding its racing tyre portfolio. Continuing its development programme for rally tyres suited to gravel and tarmac surfaces, aimed at domestic and global markets, Petlas carried on with rally tyre testing in Seferihisar, Izmir, ahead of Aegean Rally, the opening round of the Turkish Rally Championship.
The tarmac rally tyres developed by Petlas, a product of domestic capital, domestic engineering and domestic production, were used both in testing and on a variety of cars entered in the Aegean Rally. In tests attended by Petlas's racing tyre development engineers, rally tyres in 205/45 R17 and 235/40 R18 sizes for tarmac rallies were evaluated and important competition data was gathered.
Noting that Petlas, which operates under AKO Group, places great importance on its rally tyre development programme alongside its high-performance and circuit racing tyres, Petlas Marketing Manager Erkal Özürün said: "Motorsport, which is followed with great excitement in our country and around the world, is an important showcase for global brands, and also one of the driving forces behind development in the automotive industry. Motorsport is a truly important R&D platform. Every effort and every innovation made to find those few seconds needed to win races here comes back to consumers as a safer, more enjoyable and more economical driving experience."
Using its own technologies, Petlas produces tyres that carry our country into the future, for everything from passenger cars to trucks and buses, tractors to vehicles used by military units and security forces, and construction machinery to fighter jets, and it also offers these tyres to world markets as a Turkish brand. As a domestically owned Turkish company, Petlas produces 80 different tread patterns in 2,500 different sizes, strengthening its position in Turkey and in export markets every day, and continues to grow as a sought-after brand across a wide geography of more than 100 countries worldwide.
