Winter Cup Gets Underway at Körfez

Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport is sharing the experience gained from its national and international successes to date, using genuine racing cars, in the BOM Akademi Winter Cup. The first race of the programme, which is open to anyone who wants to compete, was held by the Bursa Automobile Sports Club (BOSSEK) at Körfez Race Track on 20 December. The opening round of the Winter Cup saw 15 drivers from 9 teams battle each other over 40 minutes, with the Gazcılar United team, driven by Demir Uyar and Evren Özcan, taking the win.
Ekrem Vardar and Hasan Tansu, who make up the Wicked Wheels team with car number 39, led for much of the race but lost position while lapping the car ahead on lap 37, and finished second. Burak Batur and Team BTR, with car number 10, completed the race in third place despite it being their first race.
A brand new thrill awaits the teams in the second race. On 20 February the teams will compete on an ice track to be built on Çıldır Lake in Kars–Ardahan, and will be the stars of this event, organised by the EKSİ36 club and taking place in Turkey for the first time. This time the competitors will race in a knockout format on the Çıldır Lake ice course to set the best time. For the final race of the Winter Cup, they will return to Körfez Race Track on 13 March, and the teams will secure their season standings with the points they have collected over the 3 races. Perhaps the biggest surprise and prize of the Cup is that the winning team will get a special test day with Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport's BMW 320si, a racing car that has won 2 world titles and 6 Turkish championships, and with champion driver İbrahim Okyay. At the test, the team's drivers will have the chance to compare their own performance with İbrahim Okyay's, with a data system and a race engineer on hand, giving them an important opportunity for their own development.
