Opening its season at the legendary Imola circuit in Italy with the 3H Endurance Champions Cup, Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport returned home with a runner-up trophy from its first race in the new BMW Z4 GT3.
Competing in the opening round of the five-race 3H Endurance Champions Cup with the BMW Z4 GT3 it has added to its fleet this year, Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport lined up with an experienced driver trio of Levent Kocabıyık, Aytaç Biter and Fatih Ayhan. In a race that tested the speed, power and durability of both car and drivers over three hours, Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport kept up its tradition in its first outing at the 4.9km, 22-corner Imola circuit, finishing second in its class and fourth overall to claim a place on the podium.
For Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport, whose target is to win 24-hour races, the opening round of the 3H Endurance series was a test, and the BOM drivers delivered an error-free performance in the first two hours of the race. The opening driver, Fatih Ayhan, handed the car over to Levent Kocabıyık in third place overall at the end of the first hour. Kocabıyık then set the fastest lap times to pass two rivals and take the overall lead. Things were not so easy for Aytaç Biter, who took over the car at the final pit stop. With 20 minutes of the race remaining, a steering problem cost Aytaç Biter 3 seconds per lap, but the driver stayed in the fight and brought the car home fourth overall and second in class.
Back in the TCRC after a season away
Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport's next race will be the opening round of the Turkish Circuit Racing Championship, which it sat out for a season. After winning its ninth Drivers' and fourth Teams' title in 2014, the team took a year off from the championship and returns to the track this year with İbrahim Okyay.
