Double Title Success in a Single Weekend

Selim Bacıoğlu, one of the second-generation drivers carrying the family name on the circuits and the son of five-time Turkish Rally Champion Ali Bacıoğlu, claimed a double Turkish title last weekend.
Winning the overall classification and the Category G class on the Mercedes-Benz Cumhuriyet Rally, organised by the Classic Car Club in Istanbul on 28-29 October, alongside Handan Bacıoğlu, Selim secured the 2022 Turkish Classic Car Championship, which was contested over three events.
Heading straight from Istanbul to Kayseri, the young driver was back behind the wheel on Sunday 30 October for the Melikgazi Hill Climb, the seventh round of the AVIS 2022 Turkish Hill Climb Championship. Bacıoğlu took the Category 4 win in a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX and also claimed the fastest time of the day with a 02:51.05, which sealed the AVIS 2022 Turkish Hill Climb Category 4 title.
After the double championship success, Bacıoğlu said on social media: "Two Turkish titles in two days... We won the final round of the season in Kayseri and completed a great season as the 2022 Turkish Category 4 Hill Climb Champion. Winning my fifth Turkish title across four different disciplines of motorsport (karting, circuit racing, classic car and hill climb) is still as enjoyable as it was on day one, 23 years later. This championship would not have happened without Aras Dinçer, Erkan Güleren and GP Garage My Team. Without the support of my wife Hande over the years, I could not have spent so much time on motorsport and could not have become Classic Car Champion. We have also won the Cumhuriyet Rally three years in a row. And if I had not been born into this sport thanks to my father, perhaps I would never have become a racer. Thank you all, each and every one of you."
