Ayhancan Makes Turkey Proud at Spa

Our young national driver Ayhancan Güven, who comes from a karting background, has achieved a great success in Belgium... The young driver of Toksport WRT made history by winning the opening race of the 991 GT3 class, which featured 26 competitors, in Round 6 of the Porsche Sports Cup at Belgium's famous Spa circuit. The 18-year-old Güven set the fastest time in qualifying to start from pole position, took the lead at the start and held it to the chequered flag, scoring the most important result of his career. He also set the fastest lap in the junior group and finished fifth overall in a field of 58 drivers... Among the other Turkish competitors in the same group, Ümit Ülkü finished 13th, while Bilal Saygılı came home 17th.
Güven, the first Turkish driver to take a win in the Porsche Sports Cup, also reached the podium in the second race on Sunday. He finished the sprint race second in his group and sixth overall, and although he closed the gap to the leader to 0.3 seconds, he lost the chance of victory when the final 8 minutes of the race were run behind the Safety Car. Of the other Turkish drivers representing our country in the Porsche Sports Cup this season, Ümit Ülkü finished 11th in the sprint race, while Bilal Saygılı finished 16th.
Back behind the wheel in the endurance race held the same weekend, Ayhancan Güven completed the 100-minute race second in his group by a margin of just 0.4 seconds, and fourth overall among 36 drivers.
