Yağız Gedik Completes Double in OPC Cup

The penultimate round of the Opel Corsa OPC Cup, held at Izmir Ülkü Race Track on 15-16 October, featured a superb fight. In the opening race on Saturday, contested by 14 drivers, young driver Yağız Gedik, who had set the second-fastest time in qualifying, took the win.

Atakan Abay, who only started racing on circuits this year, led for a long time and finished second. Ümit Ülkü, who set the best time in qualifying and started from the front of the grid, completed the race in third. Cup leader Ali Başakıncı, who started from fourth, made a false start and received a drive-through penalty, dropping to last place. Even so, he climbed back up to fifth by the finish and collected important points.

Under the format, the top six finishers in the first race start the second race in reverse order, and it produced a storm of excitement. Starting from sixth, Yağız Gedik passed his rivals one by one to take the lead and went on to win comfortably. Ümit Ülkü took second and Ali Başakıncı third. After a fierce four-way fight all the way to the final corner, Atakan Abay took fourth in the cup and earned valuable points.

The sixth and final round of the Opel Corsa OPC Cup, organised by Safari Motorsport, will take place at Izmir Ülkü Race Track on 5-6 November, and the battle will go down to the last corner.
