Ali Türkkan Crowned New V1 King

Ali Türkkan, the 18-year-old driver racing with TOSFED support, was the winner of the 2017 V1 Challenge season, which comprised six rounds and 12 races. After the final race at the TOSFED Körfez Race Track, last year's champion Burak Çukurova finished the season second, while another young driver, Çağlayan Çelik, took third place in the overall classification.
The final round of V1 Challenge, which hosts some of Turkey's most exciting racing thanks to its competitive format, once again produced a superb fight. Ali Türkkan won both races of the day, while second and third place changed hands. In the first race at Körfez, the fastest circuit of the year, Emir Ay finished second and Hüseyin Çetmen third. In the second race, a 12-lap contest in which the top 12 drivers started in reverse order, Kamil Çat finished second and Kadir Akça took third at the chequered flag.
Turkey's first and only domestic racing series, V1 Challenge, successfully organised for the last two years by İzmir Ülkü Motorsporları Kulübü, has completed its seventh consecutive season. In V1 Challenge 2017, held at five different circuits across three provinces – İzmir, Aydın and Kocaeli – 21 drivers competed. In the hotly contested youth class, Ali Türkkan finished as champion, with Çağlayan Çelik second and Hüseyin Çetmen third.
With the support of Power FM, Fakir, Saygılı Rulman and TRT Spor, a total of 102,000 TL in prize money was distributed to the top-placed drivers in V1 Challenge 2017. The final races at the TOSFED Körfez Race Track will be shown on TRT Spor on Tuesday 12 December at 17:15.
