Burak Çukurova Takes Double Win in V1

The second round of the V1 Challenge, a series offering a very different kind of adrenaline with its competitive spirit, ever-rising excitement and spectator appeal, was held at Ülkü Park on Sunday 18 September. Winning both 12-lap races to complete a double, Burak Çukurova moved into the lead of the overall classification in the cup.
The intense rivalry between the drivers did not go unnoticed in the first race at İzmir Ülkü Park. Ayhancan Güven, who set the fastest time in qualifying, started from pole position, with Burak Çukurova and Göksun Erkek behind. However, Güven suffered a mechanical problem right at the start of the race and was passed first by Burak Çukurova and then by Göksun Erkek on the second lap. The young driver dropped right down the order because of the problem and retired. Burak Çukurova, one of V1's leading contenders, made the most of the opportunity and held the lead to the end of the race. Çukurova was first across the line, followed by Göksun Erkek in second and Adem Çetmen in third.
In the second race, where the format sees the top 12 points scorers from the first race start in reverse order, there was a storm of excitement. There was a fierce fight from the start and, after the first corner was taken bumper to bumper, almost every car made contact with another, while 2 cars retired. In the following laps Burak Çukurova came to the fore with his experience, rising from 12th on the grid to the lead, and he held that position to the end to close the weekend with a double victory. In the second race, Ayhancan Güven, who started from 18th, finished second, while Göksun Erkek, who started from 11th, took third place.
In the V1 Challenge, where a record total of 102,000 TL will be awarded over the season, cash prizes of 5,000 TL went to the winners, 2,500 TL to the runners-up and 1,000 TL to those in third. The cup is broadcast on TRT Spor, and the third round will be organised at the İzmit Körfez Race Track on 16 October.
