Circuit Racing Championship Opens with a New Record

The 2017 Turkish Circuit Racing Championship, organised by the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation, got under way with the opening round of racing at the TOSFED Körfez Race Track on 13-14 May.
As well as the Maxi and Super class races, the weekend also hosted the BOM Academy Cup and the Opel Corsa OPC Cup, and was brought to life by drifting displays from ApexMasters drivers...
In the Maxi class, Ümit Ülkü took victory in both races at the wheel of a Nissan Skyline GT-R 35 Nismo, setting a new track record with a time of 41.904. Bilal Saygılı finished second in a BMW Z4 GT3 and İsmet Toktaş was third in a Porsche 997 GT3.
In the first Super class race, Galip Atar won in a BMW 320 TC, with Tahir Bilge second in a Honda Civic Type-R EP3 and Metin Çalışkan third in another Honda Civic Type-R EP3. In the second race, Tahir Bilge took the win, Galip Atar was second and Metin Çalışkan third.
In the first Opel Corsa OPC Cup race, contested by 12 drivers, the top three were Ümit Ülkü, Turgut Konukoğlu and Burak Çukurova, while the second race produced Mehmet Ali Baldaner, Ekrem Vardar and Burak Çukurova in that order.
In the BOM Academy Cup, contested by Caterham cars, young driver Muratcan Eğilmez won the classification compiled after two races. Yaman Yılmaz and Ahmet Armağan took second place, while Levent Ögel, returning to the circuits after a long break, claimed third.
The 2017 Turkish Circuit Racing Championship will continue with the second round, to be held at the Serres circuit in Greece on 5-6 August.
