Okyay Sets New Track Record

The opening round of the Turkish Circuit Racing Championship began today with qualifying at the İzmir Park circuit. Organised by the İzmir Ülkü Motorsporları Kulübü, the event features 13 competitors from İzmir, Ankara, Bursa and Istanbul, with 6 in the Super group and 7 in the Maxi group.
In the Maxi Group, Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport's BMW Z4 GT3 driver İbrahim Okyay, returning to the Turkish Circuit Racing Championship after a year away, set a time of 52.294 to be both the fastest driver of the day and the holder of a new İzmir Park track record.
In the Super Group, young İzmir driver Yağız Gedik, racing a Honda Civic Type-R for the newly formed Gedik Ebam Racing Team, took pole position with a time of 56.425. The most intriguing moment of the day in the Super Group came from Ümit Ülkü and Galip Atar, who drive similar cars and set fastest laps of 56.813 that were identical to the thousandth of a second.
The event will conclude tomorrow (Sunday 10 April) with the first races for the Super Group at 10:45 and the Maxi Group at 11:45, followed by the second races for the Super Group at 13:45 and the Maxi Group at 14:45.
