Contact at Monza Costs Besler a Podium

The 18-year-old young national driver Berkay Besler took to the wheel at Italy's famous Monza circuit for the third round of the Renault Clio Cup Italy series, which Besler has been contesting this season. In qualifying on Saturday 24 June, Berkay made a very quick start, setting the third and fourth fastest times.
In the cup's third round, run as two separate races on Sunday 25 June, contact from rivals denied Besler a podium that had been within touching distance. Running third in the first race, Besler was hit from behind by a rival, spun and lost positions, eventually finishing the first race seventh. In the second race, starting from fourth, Besler was again fighting for third when contact broke a wheel, and the driver took the chequered flag in tenth.After the races, Berkay said: "We found our pace very well in practice and I carried that on in qualifying, setting the third and fourth fastest times. Even though we knew our pace was good enough for a podium in the races, bad luck during the races meant we missed out on our first podium in cars at the last moment. The positives of the weekend were seeing that our pace is enough for a podium, and that the experience we gain with every kilometre we cover will help us a great deal in the races ahead."
The young driver will continue the season with the fourth round of the Renault Clio Cup Italy at Misano on 15-16 July.
