Cem and Yağız Win in Belgium

Fielding two BMW M4 GT4 cars in the 2020 GT4 European Series, Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport (BOM) was in Belgium on 23-24 October with drivers Cem Bölükbaşı-Yağız Gedik and Fatih Ayhan-İbrahim Okyay. The team, which had already made a name for itself with a total of nine podium finishes at Imola, Misano, the Nürburgring and Zandvoort, returned to the track to continue the series and came home having added to its list of successes despite the difficult conditions.
Wet and changeable weather at Spa-Francorchamps made the decisions that had to be taken considerably harder. The experienced BOM team showed real team spirit, making the right calls and strategy choices from the test sessions onwards, while a visit from Umut Deniz, Consul General in Brussels, gave the drivers a morale boost.
Experienced driver Fatih Ayhan, back on the grid for the fifth round of the GT4 European Series, shared the car with İbrahim Okyay. After a long break, Fatih Ayhan took the start of the first race on Friday and delivered a consistent performance before handing the car over to İbrahim Okyay at the pit stop. The crew finished third in the A-M class, claiming BOM's tenth podium of the season and picking up valuable points in the teams' championship while flying our flag on the podium.
İbrahim Okyay made a very strong start to the second race on Saturday and was running second when he made contact with a car that spun in front of him. He was forced to pit and then retire the car because of the damage.
In the same race, Yağız Gedik started second in the group and sixth overall after strong qualifying laps, and Cem Bölükbaşı took over for the second half of the race and stood out with his high pace. The pair took the chequered flag as Pro-Am class winners. With their second victory of the season, the two young drivers had our national anthem played in Belgium. The BOM team also received congratulations from BMW M Customer Racing and made it onto BMW's global website.
Cem and Yağız are third in the series' Pro-Am class, three points off the lead, and will head to the final round at Paul Ricard in France on 13-15 November aiming to finish second in the group. İbrahim Okyay, currently fourth, will be looking to move up to third.
