Berkay Takes to the Podium at Red Bull Ring

The second round of the Porsche Sports Cup Deutschland was held at the Red Bull Ring in Austria on 16-17 June, with the Toksport WRT team fielding five Turkish drivers. Over a weekend that featured four separate races in sprint and endurance formats, 19-year-old young national driver Berkay Besler, competing in a Porsche 991 GT3 Cup car, finished second overall in the endurance races, taking one class win and one third place in his class, and also reached the podium in the first sprint race with third overall and second in class...

In the first Porsche Super Sports Cup Sprint race, Berkay Besler finished fifth overall among 39 cars and second in the 5F class, while Ümit Ülkü took seventh overall and fourth in class, and Bilal Saygılı came home 23rd overall and 16th in class. Çağlayan Çelik crashed after contact with a rival and was unable to finish the race.

In the second Porsche Super Sports Cup Sprint race, Ümit Ülkü finished eighth overall and fifth in class among 37 cars, and Bilal Saygılı took 21st overall and 15th in class. Yıldıray Demircioğlu completed the race 28th overall and fifth in class, while Berkay Besler was unable to finish after suffering a mechanical problem.

In the first Porsche Sports Cup Endurance race held the same weekend, Berkay Besler took the chequered flag in fifth place and claimed third in class. Ümit Ülkü finished 16th overall and 12th in class, while Bilal Saygılı came home 19th overall and 14th in class. The Çağlayan Çelik-Yıldıray Demircioğlu crew, with Çelik at the wheel, went off the road while attacking a rival and did not finish.

In the weekend's final race, the second Porsche Sports Cup Endurance race, our young national driver Berkay Besler finished second and also won the 5F class, achieving the best result of his car racing career at the Red Bull Ring. Bilal Saygılı crossed the finish line 13th overall and ninth in class, and Ümit Ülkü finished 18th overall and 11th in class.
Porsche Super Sports Cup Deutschland will continue with round three at the Nürburgring on 21-22 July.
