Surprise Gift for the TOSFED President

Serkan Yazıcı, now the President of TOSFED, competed in rallies, hill climbs and rallycross events in an Opel Manta he bought from Ali Deveci in 1991. Making excellent use of the distinctive, eye-catching characteristics of his rear-wheel-drive car, Yazıcı drew attention with his driving.
The president was on stage at the TOSFED Gala Night presenting plaques to competitors, officials and sponsors when he was caught off guard by an announcement from the evening's host, Yiğit Top: "Mr President, you have handed out so many awards, but you are usually the one who receives them. We would like to present you with an early birthday gift. Ersin Tunç has prepared a surprise for you, a model of your Opel Manta with the registration 34 YZ 552, and he would like to present it to you." Coming face to face, 28 years later, with a model of his green and white Opel Manta, the first genuine competition car of his career and one that holds a very important place in it, was a big surprise for Yazıcı...

Ersin summed up his feelings: "Ever since my childhood, instead of playing with my toy cars on the carpet, I would find myself constantly cutting, shaping and adding to them. None of the cars I wanted to own were either in production or easy to get hold of in Türkiye. That led to a series of models where I made everything myself, and later my love of rallying took hold and led me to build competition models... And Serkan Yazıcı... A hero who has written his name in gold letters in the history of Turkish motorsport. A HULK behind the wheel. The Istanbul Rallycross in Bakırköy, and Serkan Yazıcı in his Opel Manta, were among the first races I watched as a child... It was a spectacle I will never forget, even if centuries pass. To have made a model of those moments, years later, for Serkan Yazıcı, who is now the President of the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation, is more than a source of pride for me."
