Ali Wins Both Races in Izmir
The season opener of the V1 Challenge 2017, organised by Ülkü Motorsporları Kulübü, was held on Sunday 16 July at the Ülkü Park circuit in Izmir, with two races run on the day.
The 18-year-old Ali Türkkan, who will be contesting the cup with the support of TOSFED this season, made a fast start to the series by winning both races of the opening round.
Fastest in qualifying with a 01:06.553, the young driver started from pole position in Race 1 and took the chequered flag in first place. Çağlayan Çelik finished second, with Burak Çukurova third. In the second race, in which the top 12 finishers were reversed on the grid, the top three remained unchanged, and the podium was Türkkan, Çelik, Çukurova.
Türkkan, who is also contesting the Turkish Circuit Racing Championship this season for the Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport team, said after winning the opening V1 Challenge race: "Returning to the V1 Challenge after a year away was exciting for me. I set the fastest time in qualifying and finished first in both races. That means I've made a good start to the series. I would like to thank the TOSFED management and our president, Serkan Yazıcı, for giving me this opportunity."
