Medical Meeting Held for Motorsport

A meeting on "Medicine in Motorsport", led by the FIA Institute, was held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, ahead of the "FIA General Assembly".
The meeting, held on 1-2 December 2014, had three main components:
1. FIA Institute Medical Summit
2. Biennial CMO Seminar (Chief Medical Officers)
3. FIA Medical Commission Meeting
On the first day, the medical organisation of the 2014 world championship racing series was reviewed, while a number of seminars covered topics including safety in electric racing cars, rally safety, the approach to mild head injuries, the new era of changes in the fight against doping, proposed changes to the rule book and the FIA database of significant accidents. The first day concluded with the FIA Medical Commission meeting.
The second day was dominated by workshops held in small groups. Run under four separate headings – extrication from a closed-cockpit car, the approach to burns, resuscitation techniques and mild head injury/concussion – the highly productive group sessions gave all participants ample opportunity for detailed discussion and practical work.
The Turkish Motorsport Federation was represented at the meetings by Dr. Cem Boneval from our Medical Committee as a member of the FIA Medical Commission, and by Dr. Erdem Yılmaz as a workshop instructor.
