Ümitcan Wins ERC3 in Cyprus

Castrol Ford Team Türkiye drivers left Cyprus Rally, the fourth round of the European Rally Championship, with strong results..
On the rally, held in the southern part of the island, Ümit Can Özdemir-Batuhan Memişyazıcı, driving a Fiesta R2T, won the ERC3 class for two-wheel-drive cars. Özdemir-Memişyazıcı also set the fastest time on the golden stage, earning the €7,000 cash prize. After the event, in which İsmet Toktaş-Sedat Bostancı, enjoying their second European outing, finished third in ERC3, Buğra Banaz-Burak Erdener moved into the lead of the ERC3 championship standings. While Murat Bostancı-Onur Vatansever went off the road on the sixth stage of the rally and were unable to finish, teams championship leaders Castrol Ford Team Türkiye kept their clear lead with the points scored on this event...
On a tough gravel rally, the crews battled over two days on a 724 km route made up of 14 special stages. The CNP Asfalistiki spectator stage, which started in the south and finished in the north, was run twice on Saturday 17 June and drew huge interest.

Among the Turkish Cypriot crews on the start list, Rauf Denktaş-Derviş Savarona rose as high as sixth before rolling, but managed to rejoin the stage with the help of spectators. Driving a Ford Fiesta R5, Denktaş-Savarona lost time with the roll, surrendered their advantage and took the chequered flag in tenth. In a Ford Fiesta R2, Deniz Fahri-Barış Kalfaoğlu also finished second in ERC3, completing their first European outing with a successful result.
