İMOK Kicks Off Seminar Series

A social responsibility project organised by the İzmir Motorsporları ve Otomobil Kulübü, known as İMOK, took place at İzmir Katip Çelebi University. The talk, titled "Why Safe Driving, and What Is Motorsport?", drew a large audience of lecturers and students.
Moderated by İMOK member Hakan Akman, and featuring board members Orçun Nural, Haldun Karakoç, Süleyman Terzioğlu and Erkan Yanıkoğlu, the talk gave students basic information on road and traffic safety. The presentation aimed to give young people the right awareness of road culture, tackling common misconceptions about traffic and cars while covering fundamentals such as recognising and avoiding risks, and raising awareness of vehicle dynamics and car control.
For young people wishing to step into motorsport, the safety of racing cars and how they differ from road cars were explained with prepared photos and videos, while participants were told which training they can take (marshalling, driver, co-driver) and where and how they can get involved in motorsport.
In the question-and-answer session at the end of the presentation, students who gave correct answers received Pirelli caps, and a draw gave two students the chance to experience co-driving during a pre-event practice session. After the talk, participants also had the opportunity to look over a Honda Civic Type-R race car that had been brought onto the campus.

With this awareness campaign aimed at preventing traffic accidents in Turkey, and with colleges and higher education institutions as its target audience, İMOK will continue its work in schools in İzmir and the surrounding area in 2019.
