Unlucky Weekend for Berkay

The 18-year-old young Turkish driver Berkay Besler was at Italy's Misano circuit on 15-16 July for round four of the Renault Clio Cup Italy series.

Besler, who moved from karting to circuit racing this year, reviewed a weekend of three separate races that proved unlucky, noting that he was unable to find a 100% performance in qualifying. In the first race, in which he started seventh, he moved up into the leading positions before a brake problem prevented him from finishing. Besler said: "In the second race, from eighth on the grid, the brake problem continued and a problem with the gear-shift electronics meant I didn't see the chequered flag. In the third and final race of the weekend I had set quick lap times and moved up to fifth, but on the last lap contact with a rival earned me a 25-second penalty and dropped me back to 13th."

Saying that it was an unlucky weekend overall, Berkay Besler stressed that every race brings unknowns and "firsts" for the driver, and that the driver will take the positives from this event and concentrate on the remaining races.

The Renault Clio Cup Italy series will conclude with races at the Vallelunga circuit on 9-10 September and the Imola circuit on 30 September-1 October...
