Our national driver Berkay Besler took the start in the BNL Kick Off race as preparation for the Rotax Max Euro Challenge and CEE Rotax Max Challenge series, in which he will represent Türkiye in Europe this season. The races, held at the Genk circuit in Belgium on Sunday 15 March, were run in the Micro Max, Mini Max, Junior Max, Senior Max and DD2 categories.

In the Senior Max category, in which Berkay Besler competed, 42 drivers from 13 countries across three continents – Europe, Asia and America – took part. In a race watched with bated breath by the crowds lining the 1.36-kilometre circuit, our national driver impressed with his performance.

SEMI-FINAL WIN

In a fiercely contested Senior Max category, our national driver Berkay Besler was consistently among the top three on the fastest times. With a superb performance, Berkay won the 10-lap semi-final, which featured 27 drivers, with a time of 9.25.101.

In the 18-lap Final, which saw 28 drivers do battle, Berkay Besler led for a long time, and just when everyone thought he had the race won, a small stroke of bad luck dropped him down the order. However, our national driver kept his racing composure and managed to take the chequered flag in sixth place with a time of 17.03.566. Having put his rivals on notice with his results in Belgium, Berkay Besler said he is eagerly awaiting the first round of the Rotax Max Euro Challenge, to be held at the Salbris circuit in France from 30 March to 5 April.

RECEP İLKER YİĞİT UNABLE TO TAKE PART

Turkish driver Recep İlker Yiğit, who lives in Belgium, will also compete this season in the BNL Karting Series and the Belgian Max Challenge (BMC). The 21-year-old, who could not take part in the 15 March race because of an injury, will make his first start of the season in Round 1 of the Belgian Max Challenge, to be held at the Ostricourt circuit in France on 28-29 March.
