Apaydın Opens Season with a Podium

The first hill climb of the 2019 season was organised by the Ege Otomobil Sporları Kulübü, known as EOSK, on Sunday 24 March on the Manisa Demirci road. The event featured a total of 26 competitors across the national and local categories, and Engin Apaydın, who set the fastest Category 2 time on all three runs, also caught the eye with second place overall.

Competing in a Renault Clio Ragnotti on HANKOOK tyres, the Bursa-based driver clocked 3.59.97, 3.56.85 and 4.03.59 on the three runs and left the first event of the season delighted with the result he had hoped for.
Speaking briefly after the event, Apaydın said: "Last year we took a break from the Turkish Hill Climb Championship, entering only the round on our home hill, and we have now restarted our fight in 2019. We liked the technical nature of Demirci's precipitous course, but because of the loose gravel we had to compete under constant risk. The long straight in the final section of the hill didn't suit our car and we lost valuable time there, but we tried to keep a high pace within the limits on the Demirci course and finished the event as Category 2 winners and second overall."

Engin Apaydın will continue his Hill Climb Championship campaign at the İSOK Hill Climb, organised by the İstanbul Otomobil Sporları Kulübü in Şile on 4-5 May.
