North Star Wins the War of the Stars

The Prokart BPC teams met at the Körfez Race Track on 6 November 2016 for the sixth round, the season finale. As the last race of the season, there was everything to play for: both the winner of the day and the season champion were still to be decided.

After the race held in Uşak a week earlier, the leaders sat at the top by only a narrow points margin and were determined not to lose that advantage. In some teams, a tie on points added further tension.

In the first stage, the season's leading contenders started with Kuzey Yıldızı (North Star) driven by Kuzey Eroldu, BİZ:? with Zeynep Şen, Deniz Yıldızı (Sea Star) with Umut Can Doğangün and Alfa EEKT with Toprak Candan.

At the end of the 60-minute first stage, Kuzey Yıldızı was first across the line under the chequered flag, and the team also set the fastest time to take the extra points. BİZ.? finished second and Chronos Kart10 third.

For the second 60-minute stage, the teams started with Ali Türkkan for Kuzey Yıldızı, Emir Kalafatoğlu for Deniz Yıldızı and Emir Tahincioğlu for BİZ.?. Kuzey Yıldızı wanted to win the early stages and declare the season title early, and by the end of this stage the team had come very close to that goal, winning the stage and taking the fastest-time point as well. Deniz Yıldızı was second and BİZ.? third, while the 34 İstanbul team finished fourth with a very strong performance.

With the third stage of the sixth round, the 2016 season champion could be declared. Kuzey Yıldızı went into the race with that in mind. Leaving nothing to chance, the team won this stage as well, taking both the stage victory and the fastest-time point, and so secured the Istanbul Sportif Karting Endurance Championship. At the end of the stage the order was Kuzey Yıldızı, Deniz Yıldızı, BİZ.?, İstanbul, Chronos Kart10, Chronos Racing and Çoban Yıldızı.

When the fourth stage started, Çoban Yıldızı had a clutch problem and got away late, which kept the team out of the accidents at the second corner. Contact there sent four karts off the track, and Çoban Yıldızı was able to pass those teams with ease. When the teams regrouped and returned to the track, there was a fierce battle between Çoban Yıldızı and Deniz Yıldızı. The fourth place Çoban Yıldızı took in this stage secured fourth place in the overall classification for the season.

Over the six rounds of the season, Kuzey Yıldızı took four wins and two second places and set the fastest time in 17 of the 24 stages, becoming the team to win the Istanbul Sportif Karting Endurance Championship in the 2016 season. The Kuzey Yıldızı team began with Orçun Aydemir and Ali Türkkan, and was later joined by Kuzey Eroldu and Mehmet Çınar.

Founded in 2013, Kuzey Yıldızı have broken every record as champions of the last four years. In the BPC category, the winner was the ALFA EEKT team, made up of Murathan Gür, Toprak Candan and Emre Ergör.
