Drivers Compete in Memory of Martyred Petty Officer Şimşek

The Martyred Petty Officer Hamza Şimşek Hill Climb, the sixth round of the 2017 Turkish Hill Climb Championship, was held in Çankaya on Sunday 13 August, organised by Ankara Otomobil Sporları Kulübü with the support of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality.
The event, which attracted 18 competitors from Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Antalya, Sakarya and Kocaeli, was held in the name of Martyr Hamza Şimşek, who was killed in January during Operation Euphrates Shield at al-Bab. A resident of the village where the event took place, Şimşek was the son of the village headman, Mustafa Şimşek.
On the 6-kilometre course, run over three runs, Kaan Kara took the Category 1 win in an Opel Corsa GSI, with Ramazan Ekiz second in a Fiat Palio.
In Category 2, Ferhat Tanrıbilir, competing for Neo Motorspor in a Peugeot 208 R2, continued his winning streak in Ankara and once again took the top step of the podium. Çağlar Ünüvar was second in this category in an Opel Astra GSI, while Önder Akcengiz went off the road on the final run in his Ford Fiesta ST and retired.
In Category 3, Antalya's Okan Tanrıverdi took the win for GP Garage My Team in a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX, with Erdal Etyemez second in a Renault Clio II Sport and Sakarya's Yasin Güleç third in a Peugeot 206 RC.
Ankara's Kadir Murat Altuntaş, in a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX, took both the Category 4 win and the fastest time trophy with a time of 03:21.180. Izmir's Cem Yudulmaz was second in an Opel Corsa Kit Car, and Ankara's Yavuzhan Cabbaroğlu was third in a Subaru Impreza WRX.
The 2017 Turkish Hill Climb Championship will conclude with the seventh round, to be held in Antalya on 26-27 August.
