Big Battle at Şahintepe

Round 2 of the AVIS 2021 Turkish Hill Climb Championship was held on 17-18 July on the Bursa Şahintepe course, organised by Bursa Automobile Sports Club, known as BOSSEK, with the support of Gemlik Municipality.
The event, in which 34 drivers competed across four separate classes, began with a start ceremony attended by Gemlik Mayor Mehmet Uğur Sertaslan and TOSFED President Eren Üçlertoprağı. Followed with interest and excitement by a large crowd of spectators, the event ended with the leading drivers receiving their awards at a ceremony held at Kumla Pier.
On the 7.20km course, run over three runs, Bursa-based driver Taner Oruç took the win in Class 1 with a Citroen Saxo VTS, while Orçun Kuşçu was second in a Peugeot 106 GTI and young driver Berat Berke Yavuz completed the podium in a Citroen Saxo VTS. In Class 2, another Bursa driver, Burak Başlık, took victory in a Ford Fiesta R2 and also set fastest time of the event with a 04:22.08. Sevcan Sağıroğlu took second place on the class podium in a Fiat Palio, while Hakan Yuva, Süleyman Yanar and Serdar Canbek failed to reach the finish.
In Class 3, İzmir's Murat Soyçopur, returning to the hills after a two-year break, was the fastest in a Renault Clio R3, with Burak Akın second in a Ford Fiesta ST and Bahadır Sevinç third in a Renault Sport Clio. Refik Bozkurt, one of the class's leading names, went off in Saturday practice, while İsmet Toktaş and Nizamettin Kaynak were forced to retire early with mechanical failures on the first run. In Class 4, Cem Yalın took the top spot in a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX, with Ayhan Germirli second and Erol Akbaş third, also in Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IXs. The team win went to GP Garage, who fielded five drivers.
In the local classification, Yunus Emre Bol was first and Ümit Bayram second in Class 1, while Sevcan Sağıroğlu was first in Class 2. In Class 3, Mehmet Gökseven lifted the winner's trophy, with Faruk Güzelçalışkan second and Burak Akın third, and in Class 4 Erol Akbaş was first, Erhan Akbaş second and Uğur Bulut third.
The third round of the AVIS 2021 Turkish Hill Climb Championship will be organised by the Istanbul Automobile Sports Club (İSOK) on the Darlık course in Şile on 31 July-1 August.
