DRT Legends Take First Win in Cup

The 2021 TOSFED Karting Endurance Cup got under way with round one at Tuzla Karting Park on Saturday 31 July. Organised by Tuzla Motorsporları Kulübü with the support of Tuzla Municipality, the eight-hour race attracted eight teams.

In heat approaching 40 degrees, the teams battled not only each other but also the high temperatures and humidity. DRT JUNIOR took the top spot in qualifying with a 45.909, followed by DRT LEGENDS with a 46.147, CHRONOS 1 with a 46.938 and BORUSAN with a 47.350.

The race started at 14.30. DRT JUNIOR led away from the start, with CHRONOS 1 slotting into second. In the opening phase DRT JUNIOR began to build a gap, while DRT LEGENDS moved up to second. A mechanical failure then forced DRT JUNIOR into the pits and it dropped to last. The first two hours were led by DRT LEGENDS, with CHRONOS 1 and DRT THUNDER following the leader.

As the race went on, DRT LEGENDS held the lead throughout. CHRONOS 1 had an inconsistent race. DRT THUNDER continued as the closest challenger to the leader. DRT JUNIOR charged up from the back with a series of attacks, climbing as high as second.

After eight hours, DRT LEGENDS took the chequered flag first after 591 laps to claim the winner's cup. Despite dropping to last early in the race, DRT JUNIOR finished the day second with 574 laps. DRT THUNDER, whose line-up was only put together a few days before the race, finished third with 572 laps and made it onto the podium. CHRONOS 1 was fourth with 565 laps, CHRONOS 2 fifth with 559, VECTOR RACING sixth with 555, KORKMAZ RACING seventh with 546 and BORUSAN eighth with 544.

Round two of the season will be held at Körfez Karting Track in September.
