Classic Car Enthusiasts Descend on Aksaray

The Ihlara Classic Car Rally, organised by NewArt Media and Aksaray Municipality, has come to a close in Aksaray after running on 23-24 April.
With 68 classic cars of various makes taking part, the second day of the rally started in front of the Somuncu Baba Complex. From there the cars headed to the towns of Ağzıkarahan and Saratlı, then on to the Güzelyurt district. Passing through the town of Ihlara to Yenipınar village and then Helvadere, the cars reached the city centre to complete the event.
Mayor Haluk Şahin Yazgı told reporters that the municipality was delighted to have hosted the two-day 3rd Ihlara Classic Car Rally.
Noting that trophies were presented to the top finishers, Yazgı said: "It was a very good event for us. We want it to continue in the coming years. The rally made a huge contribution to promoting Aksaray. We had more cars take part this year than last year. God willing, we will continue it next year with even greater participation."
In the overall classification, İsmail Biçer and Meral Biçer won in a 1972 Mercedes 200, Evren Yılmaz and Celil Gürler were second in a 1971 Ford Taunus, and Turan Demirer and Deniz Demirer took third in a 1967 Volkswagen Type 1.
A prize-giving ceremony was held at Kent Meydanı after the event. At the ceremony, Yazgı presented trophies and gifts to the top finishers.
