Championship Missed by the Narrowest of Margins

The seventh and final round of the Turkish Karting Championship was held by the İstanbul Karting ve Otomobil Kulübü at the Körfez Karting Circuit on 5 November.

The event began with morning practice and qualifying, followed by three races in every class to determine the classification. Rain changed the balance of the competition and made for some difficult moments for the drivers...

There was a fierce battle among seven drivers in the Mini class, which is open to drivers aged 7-12. Zekai Özen took the win, while Ömer Asaf Kolot, who finished second in all three races, claimed second place and Kerim Sulyak took third.

The points fight between Ömer Asaf and Zekai was won by Zekai Özen by a single point, making him the 2016 Turkish Karting Championship Mini class champion.

In the Formula Master class, Süleyman Kolot, who had led the championship through the first half of the season, was also forced to say goodbye to a title he had come very close to in the final round, like his son Ömer Asaf, as a lack of fitness took its toll, and finished the season as runner-up.
