Who Was Demir Berberoğlu?

Born in Ankara in 1953, he completed his primary education in Eskişehir before finishing his studies at Istanbul's Galatasaray High School and the Ankara Faculty of Law. He began working as an independent lawyer in Eskişehir in 1977 and entered politics in 1983 as the founding Eskişehir Provincial Chairman of the DYP. He was elected an Eskişehir MP in the 1995 general election, and during his time in office he served as Chairman of the Turkish Grand National Assembly's Human Rights Committee and as a member of its Justice and Constitution Committees. Alongside this, he was Vice-Chairman of the Black Sea Parliament and led the Turkey-Russia Friendship Group.

Berberoğlu's passion for cars and motorsport began in childhood, and he devoted all the time left over from his busy working life to this hobby. He began his racing career by entering the Hitit Rally in 1971 and was still actively pursuing his motorsport career to this day. Berberoğlu took office as president at the end of TOSFED's Ordinary General Assembly on 9 November 2012, but resigned from the presidency together with all the board members after six months.
