In round three of the Rotax Max Euro Challenge, one of the toughest karting series in the world, held in Germany at the weekend, National Team driver Berkay Besler, who represents Turkey in the Senior category, kept his title bid alive by scoring crucial points despite a run of bad luck…

At the 1222-metre Pro Kart Raceland in Wackersdorf, the 58 best drivers from 31 countries across six continents battled it out in the Senior category, making for fierce competition. Berkay Besler, who holds a clear lead in the CEE Rotax Max Challenge, had also set his sights on leading this series. However, our representative struggled with misfortune throughout the weekend, failing to finish two qualifying heats after being hit by rivals, and then got caught up in an accident in the 14-lap Pre-Final on Sunday 26 July, which cost a chance of a high finish.

Even so, Besler managed to put 14 very valuable points on the board. In the 19-lap Final, the National Team driver then produced a superb performance. Despite starting from 21st, Berkay climbed to 14th with six laps to go. Pushing hard for maximum points, our representative gained one more place to take the chequered flag in 13th with a time of 16:37.985.

With this result Berkay Besler picked up 40 more points, taking his tally to 190 and keeping his title hopes alive. In the Rotax Max Euro Challenge, where the leading drivers are separated by very small margins, the championship will be decided at the final round of the series in Belgium on 31 August–6 September.
