Spectacular Season Opener in Sarıkamış

Sarıkamış Rally, the opening round of the Petrol Ofisi Maxima 2024 Turkish Rally Championship organised by Eksi 36 Sports Club, took place in Kars on 23-25 February. Organised with the support of the Kars Governorship, Kars Municipality, Sarıkamış District Governorship and Sarıkamış Municipality, and sponsored by Duja Hotels, VST Tour, ICRYPEX, Spor Toto, Remed Assistance, Salados, Power App and Fora Araç Takip, the rally attracted 26 cars and 52 competitors.

Over three days on snow- and ice-covered surfaces, 18-year-old Kerem Kazaz of Parkur Racing took the overall win with Lithuanian co-driver Andris Malnieks. Kazaz, who also won Class 2 and the junior drivers' category, finished 24 seconds clear of Ali Türkkan and Burak Erdener of Castrol Ford Team Türkiye in second, with Red Bull athlete Türkkan also taking the Class 3 win.
Ümit Can Özdemir and Kutay Ertuğrul of GP Garage My Team completed the podium in third, and the awards for the top finishers were presented at a ceremony in front of Duja Chalet, attended by Kars Governor Ziya Polat, Kars Police Chief Mehmet Ömür Saka, Kars Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Senior Colonel Fatih Cemal Kiper, TOSFED President Eren Üçlertoprağı, Sarıkamış District Governor Enis Aslantatar, Kars Youth and Sports Provincial Director Ayhan Yüreğir and officials from the sponsor companies.
In the demanding rally, Çağlayan Çelik and Koray Akgün of Atış Motorsport won Class 4, while Kemal Şener and Bora Yılmaz of GP Garage My Team took Class N. The women drivers' win went to Burcu Çetinkaya of the same team, and the women co-drivers' win went to Sevi Akal, who competed alongside Mert Yudulmaz of Castrol Ford Team Türkiye.
In the TOSFED Rally Cup, held this year in memory of the late driver Celal Gülerhan, Gürol Baranlı and Alperen Tetik of GMG Racing took the win. Özgür Yürük and Serkan Şahiner of the same team were second, while privateer crew Tolga Muhtar and Serhat Kılınç finished third and won Category 3.
The Petrol Ofisi Maxima 2024 Turkish Rally Championship continues with the Aegean Rally, organised by the Aegean Automobile Sports Club (EOSK) in Marmaris, Muğla, on 22-24 March.
