Hill Climb Season Opener Held in Demirci

Demirci Hill Climb, the opening round of the 2019 Turkish Hill Climb Championship, was organised by the Aegean Automobile Sports Club (EOSK) on 23-24 March. Held in the Demirci district of Manisa with the support of Demirci Municipality, Manisa Metropolitan Municipality and Akıncılar Motorcycle Club, the event attracted 23 competitors from different provinces across 4 separate categories.
The event began on the evening of Saturday 23 March with the start ceremony at Demirci Cumhuriyet Square, and was run on Sunday 24 March over a 6.5-kilometre tarmac course. The course, which was hosting a motorsport event for the first time, won the approval of the competitors, while local people followed the cars with enthusiasm throughout the day.
After 3 runs, Taner Oruç from Bursa took the win in Category 1 with a Citroen Saxo VTS, while Engin Apaydın, also from Bursa, won Category 2 with a Renault Clio Ragnotti, Ayhan Germirli from Izmir took Category 3 with a Renault Clio II Sport, and Cem Yalın from Istanbul won Category 4 with a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX.
In the local category, the class winners were Hakan Kerci in Category 1 with a Ford Fiesta R1, Hüseyin Yıldırım in Category 2 with a Honda Civic Type-R, Mustafa Nazik in Category 3 with a Peugeot 106 GTI and Emre Zümrüt in Category 4 with a Renault Clio RS.
The 2019 Turkish Hill Climb Championship will continue with the second round, organised by the Istanbul Automobile Sports Club (İSOK) on 4-5 May.
