Rally Returns to Bodrum
Following talks between the Bodrum Promotion Foundation (BOTAV) and the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation, the rally is returning to Bodrum. Rally Bodrum, organised by Karya Automobile Sports Club under the leadership of BOTAV, will be the first rally held on the Bodrum peninsula in 27 years.
The opening event of the 2021 Demir Berberoğlu motorsport season will be held in Bodrum on 10-11 April. The event, which is the first round of the 2021 TOSFED Rally Cup, named in memory of Şevki Gökerman, one of the late doyens of Turkish motorsport, will begin on the evening of Saturday 10 April at 18:30 with an opening cocktail reception and start ceremony. With TED Bodrum College serving as the service park and rally headquarters, the event will get under way at 09:30 on Sunday 11 April, with six special stages in the Yalıçiftlik-Kızılağaç area, and will conclude with a prize-giving ceremony on the finish podium.
TOSFED President Eren Üçlertoprağı visited Bodrum Mayor Ahmet Aras to discuss Rally Bodrum, and presented the mayor with a plaque of thanks for his contribution to motorsport. Expressing his delight that such events are being held in an important region like Bodrum, Üçlertoprağı said: "It is very important for us that local authorities embrace motorsport, as it introduces our sport to different regions. We believe Rally Bodrum will become a tradition and will host a successful season opener." Üçlertoprağı was accompanied on the visit by TOSFED board member Cem Akoğul, KAROSK President Atıl Atılgan and BOTAV Secretary General Serkan Ceylan.
Bodrum Mayor and BOTAV Board Chairman Ahmet Aras underlined the value that sporting events add to Bodrum's economy and promotion, as well as their contribution to tourism, saying they are always happy to host such events and that Bodrum's goal is to attract international events.
The event, which is expected to attract a very high entry, will also mark the start of the summer season for Bodrum.
