Orhan Makes It Three From Three at Rally Eskişehir

The ETİ Rally Eskişehir, organised by the Eskişehir Automobile Sports Club, took place on 23-25 June with 58 cars and 116 competitors. The third rally of the 2022 season, run under the main sponsorship of ICRYPEX, consisted of 8 special stages over a 380 km asphalt route, and ended with victory for the Orhan Avcıoğlu-Burçin Korkmaz crew, driving a Skoda Fabia R5 for Toksport WRT. National driver Avcıoğlu also took the top spot in Class 2, and with this win – his third from three – he extended his lead in the Shell Helix 2022 Turkish Rally Championship.
Second overall went to the Ali Türkkan-Burak Erdener crew in a Ford Fiesta R5 for Castrol Ford Team Türkiye, while Red Bull driver Türkkan also won the rally's young drivers' classification. Third overall was Burak Çukurova-Burak Akçay in a Skoda Fabia R5 for BC Vision Motorsport, while Castrol Ford Team Türkiye took the manufacturers' win and Toksport WRT the teams' win.
In the demanding two-day rally, the class wins were shared by Serhan Türkkan-Koray Akgün of Castrol Ford Team Türkiye in Class 3, Yıldıray Demircioğlu-Mehmet Köleoğlu of BC Vision Motorsport in Class 4 and the Two-Wheel Drive classification, Sinan Soylu-Ali Tuğrul Kaya of GP Garage My Team in Class N, and Nebil Erbil-Aslı Erbil of Renault Clio Trophy Türkiye in Class 5. Aslı Erbil also won the rally's female co-drivers' classification.
The rally also awarded points towards the Turkish Historic Rally Championship. In this classification, open to classic rally cars, Tan Çağlayan-Selda Çağlayan took victory in a Peugeot 205 GTI, also winning Category 1. In the same category, the Köşem Restaurant-backed father-and-son crew Ömer Gür-Levent Gür took second in a Murat 131, with Onur Çelikyay-Serdar Canbek third in a Murat 124. In Category 2, the siblings Mert Can Büyüksan-Melis Büyüksan won in their 1973 VW 1303S, which they call rallybug.
The Oğuz Gürsel TOSFED Rally Cup was won overall, and in Category 4, by the Levent Şapçılar-Deniz Gümüş crew of Castrol Ford Team Türkiye in a Ford Fiesta Rally3. Erdem İlbaylı-Soner Çevik from the same team took second overall and won Category 2 in a Ford Fiesta R2, and Hakan Gürel-Çağatay Kolaylı, also from the same team, took third in a Ford Fiesta R2. Akın Can Kiper-Efe Eryalaz won Category 3 in a Fiat Egea, and the Ege ASal Metal-backed Kemal Çetinkaya-Tolga Tezeken won Category 1 in a Ford Fiesta R1.
The Shell Helix 2022 Turkish Rally Championship continues with the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality 39th Rally Kocaeli, organised by the Kocaeli Automobile Sports Club on 30-31 July.
