Melikgazi Hill Climb Introduces Locals to Motorsport

Round 3 of the AVIS 2021 Turkish Hill Climb Championship, the Melikgazi Hill Climb, was staged on 28-29 August on a 5-kilometre course between Tavlusun and Talas. Organised by Eskişehir Automobile Sports Club with the support of Melikgazi Municipality, the event began with the start ceremony on Saturday 28 August.
Twenty-three competitors took part across four categories, with a large crowd watching the action over three runs. Only 12 drivers completed the event, which ended with a prize-giving ceremony outside Melikgazi Municipality, hosted by Melikgazi Mayor Dr. Mustafa Palancıoğlu.
In Category 1, Bursa-based driver Taner Oruç took the win in a Citroen Saxo VTS, with Orçun Kuşçu second in a Peugeot 106 GTI and Özlem Uludağ Gülcan third in a Nissan Micra. In Category 2, Ankara's Nebil Erbil won for Tok Sport WRT in a Ford Fiesta R2, while Ateş Berberoğlu took second for GP Garage My Team in a Peugeot 208 R2 and Sevcan Sağıroğlu completed the podium in a Fiat Palio.
In Category 3, Refik Bozkurt was fastest in a Renault Clio Sport and also set the fastest time of the event with 03:27.01. Kaan Kara of Ülkü Motorsport took second in a Fiat Palio Kit Car, with Ülkü Motorsport team-mate Yunus Çapraz third in an Opel Corsa OPC. In Category 4, Ayhan Germirli won in a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX, with Evren Girgin second in a Fiat Palio. Ülkü Motorsport won the teams' classification.
In the local event held on Saturday 28 August, the category wins went to Taner Oruç in Category 1, Nebil Erbil in Category 2, Kaan Kara in Category 3 and Cem Yalın in Category 4.
The fourth round of the AVIS 2021 Turkish Hill Climb Championship will be organised by the Kocaeli Automobile Sports Club (KOSDER) on the Kocaeli Kartepe course on 11-12 September.
