Avcıoğlu Wins in Northern Cyprus

Rally Northern Cyprus, the sixth round of the Turkish Rally Championship and the eighth round of the TRNC Rally Championship, organised by the Northern Cyprus Touring and Automobile Association, has been completed. Orhan Avcıoğlu-Burçin Korkmaz won the rally in a Ford Fiesta S2000 for Castrol Ford Team Türkiye, with Ömer Yıldız-Mehmet Kasımoğlu second in a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO VI and Fikri Macila-Mehmet Mişon third in a Skoda Fabia S2000.

The three-day rally brought together 16 crews from Turkey and 13 Turkish Cypriot competitors, with 20 crews reaching the finish. Avcıoğlu-Korkmaz claimed victory in a time of 1:31:43.5. Ömer Yıldız-Mehmet Kasımoğlu, who were locked in a fierce battle with Avcıoğlu, finished second, 10.4 seconds behind, after picking up a 10-second penalty for checking in to a time control one minute late.

Fikri Macila-Mehmet Mişon, winners of the Girne Harbour spectator stage, moved into the lead of the 2015 TRNC Rally Championship, while fourth-placed Deniz Denner-Ömer Topcu kept their title hopes alive.

In the class results, Burcu Çetinkaya took the ladies' driver win and Çiçek Güney the ladies' co-driver win. Castrol Ford Team Türkiye's Ümitcan Özdemir-Afşin Baydar won the 2WD, junior driver and RC4 classes, Kerim Tar-Sevilay Genç took the RC3 win, and Mustafa Çakal-Mehmet Köleoğlu won Class N4.
