Breathless Battle at Körfez

The Turkish Rallycross Championship Final, the last event of the 2021 Demir Berberoğlu Season, was held on 25-26 December at the TOSFED Körfez Race Track. Staged on a 1,500-metre half-tarmac, half-gravel track created with the support of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, the multi-exit format event saw 26 competitors battle it out across 4 separate categories.
After administrative and technical checks on Saturday 25 December, the competitors took to the track for practice. On Sunday 26 December they went out three times for a 4-lap qualifying session. With their final grid positions determined by the points they scored in qualifying, the drivers fought hard in the closely contested final races to become Turkish Champion in their categories.
On Sunday, drifting drivers Furkan Çapkın, Çağatay Arıca, Burak Söğüt and Uğur Soylu, SSV drivers İsrafil Akyüz and Barbaros Yangın in their Can-Am X3s, 2021 Eastern European Baja Cup winner Mert Becce and Murat Karahan in a Mercedes Unimog also took to the track, treating the fans packing the grandstands to a colourful spectacle.
At the end of the 6-lap final races, Ali İşeri won Category 1 in a Renault Clio, Efehan Yazıcı was second in an Opel Corsa GSI and Orçun Kuşçu finished third in a Peugeot 106 GTI.
In Category 2, which only two competitors were able to complete, Burak Başlık of BC Vision Motorsport took the win in a Ford Fiesta R2, while Okan Tanrıverdi of Castrol Ford Team Türkiye finished second in a Ford Fiesta R2.
In Category 3, the experienced Kemal Gamgam was first under the chequered flag in an Opel Astra GSI, while İrfan Tatlıcılar in a Ford Fiesta ST and Serkan Güleç in a Peugeot 206 RC took second and third on the podium.
In Category 4, Buğra Can Kılıç of Evofone Rally Team took the win in a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX, Erol Akbaş of Castrol Ford Team Türkiye was second in a Ford Fiesta Rally3, and Çağlayan Çelik from the same team was third in a Ford Fiesta R5.
Following these results, Ali İşeri in Category 1, Burak Başlık in Category 2, Kemal Gamgam in Category 3 and Buğra Can Kılıç in Category 4 shared the 2021 Turkish Rallycross Championship titles.
