Kartepe Hill Climb Held in Tense Conditions

The Kartepe Hill Climb, the second hill climb round of the ICRYPEX-sponsored 2024 Oyman Atabay season, was organised by the Kocaeli Automobile Sports Club (KOSK) on 4-5 May. The event, round two of the 2024 AVIS Turkish Hill Climb Championship, saw 33 competitors fight it out across 5 categories and was run at Bayraktepe on the Kartepe road with the support of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality and Kartepe Municipality.
Over three runs on the 5.87-kilometre course, with wet weather making life difficult for the drivers, GP Garage My Team's İlker Aktaş took the win in Category 1, with Özgür Şenyüz of Ege Asal Motorspor second and Serpil Kotan from the same team third.
In Category 2, Engin Apaydın of Atış Motorsport took victory, while Metehan Üstükarcı finished second and Ayhan Germirli third, both from Atış Motorspor. In Category 3, Atış Motorsport's Murat Soyçopur followed up his Eskişehir win with another victory in Kocaeli, with Burak Dalkılıç second and Ege Asal Motorspor's Murat Çetin third.
In Category 4, Cem Yalın of GP Garage My Team took the win, with team-mate Sinan Soylu second and Hypco Neo Motorspor's Alp Özkaya third. In Category 5, Bahadır Sevinç was the fastest driver of the day, with Ege Asal Motorspor's Deniz Dursun second and Atış Motorspor's Burak Söğüt third.
The 'best run of the day' award went to Cem Yalın with a time of 03:25.95, while GP Garage My Team won the teams' classification. In the women's classification, Serap Kotan won Category 1 ahead of Yasemin Erikli, while in Category 3 Hande Erdoğan was first and Atış Motorsport's Nazan Zorlu second. In the local classification, Murat Güremek (Category 1), Kaan Polatoğlu (Category 2), Murat Çetin (Category 3) and Mehmet Demirkol (Category 4) shared the class wins.
The 2024 AVIS Turkish Hill Climb Championship continues with the Buharkent Hill Climb in Aydın, organised by the Aegean Automobile Sports Club (EOSK) on 25-26 May.
