Emrah Ali Başo Makes Fast Start

The rally cup, run as the Yusuf Aramacı Cup in 2016 and the Renç Koçibey Cup in 2017, and this year held in memory of Ali Sipahi, one of the doyens of Turkish motorsport, got under way with Rally Phrygia, with 19 crews entered across 4 separate categories.
Unlike in previous years, the crews contesting the cup competed over the entire route alongside the National and Historic classes in the national rallies, and the first winner of the 2018 season was the Bursa-based crew of Emrah Ali Başo-Gürkal Menderes, driving a Ford Fiesta R1 for Ford Motorsport Turkey with the support of ÜÇGE. Başo set the fastest overall time on Midas-2, the final stage of the rally, where rain and fog made life difficult for the crews, taking the best result of the driver's career and also winning Category 1.
Kenan Kar-Soner Tamer from Antalya, competing in the cup for GP Garage My Team in a Citroen C2, finished second and won Category 2, while İlhan Mutluay-Cumhur Önder, also in a Citroen C2, took third.
In the International Rally Phrygia, where the crews carry points to the cup standings with a 1.1 coefficient, Ankara's Yavuzhan Cabbaroğlu-Enez Al won Category 3 in a Subaru Impreza WRX, while the Category 4 winners were Murat Güray-Bora Yakın from Istanbul in a Fiat Palio.
