Aegean Cup Ends at Koçarlı

The event began on Saturday 8 October with an opening ceremony in Koçarlı Republic Square, where folk dance performances were staged. The ceremonial start, attended by Governor Hüseyin Aksoy, MPs Metin Yavuz and Bekir Kuvvet Erim, Koçarlı Mayor Nedim Kaplan, representatives of civil society organisations, village headmen and local residents, drew considerable interest.
With a festival atmosphere created by Koçarlı Municipality's various activities, locals looking to make the most of the weekend watched the cars racing on the ground and colourful parachutes gliding through the air.
Kemal Çetinkaya, competing in a Ford Fiesta R1 with Ege Asal Metal sponsorship, set the fastest time of the day on the first run with 5:52.40 to take the Category 1 win and the fastest time trophy.
Erdem Köse, a driver from Aydın who made his debut on the hill climb courses this year, took the runner-up trophy in a Fiat Siena, while the experienced Mustafa Nazik came through a strong field in a Fiat Palio to claim third.
In Category 2, Serdar Sarıduman won in a Citroen VTS C2, with Hakan Akman second in a Fiat Palio and Erdal Oral third, also in a Fiat Palio. The season-long rivalry among the women drivers in the cup continued at Koçarlı as well.
At the finish, Yasemin Erikli took victory, Serap Kotan was second, and Moroccan competitor Hassania Aktaş, taking part in a hill climb for the first time, completed the podium in third.
The top finishers received their trophies at the post-event awards ceremony, attended by Koçarlı District Governor Ersin Tepeli and Koçarlı Mayor Nedim Kaplan.
