Organised by the İzmir Motorsporları ve Otomobil Kulübü, abbreviated as İMOK, the Bornova Hill Climb was held on Sunday 21 April with 19 competitors on a 5.2-kilometre tarmac course running from the Bornova Garrison Martyrs' Cemetery up to the Kayadibi neighbourhood.
Staged to support the İzmir Martyrs' Families Aid and Solidarity Association, the event began with a group of martyrs' relatives, competitors and spectators attending a commemoration and tribute ceremony at the Garrison Martyrs' Cemetery. After the emotional ceremony, the event was started. Germirli Fastest in BornovaSpeaking at the ceremony, İMOK President Erkan Yanıkoğlu said: "We who have given our hearts to this sport did not join merely out of excitement for racing and a passion for motorsport. We have always taken a sensitive approach to life. As the great poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy put it in his verses, we do not simply dismiss the ground we tread as mere earth; we do not let those martyrs who shed their blood and gave their lives for it be forgotten, and we feel like the sons, brothers and relatives of martyrs. I bow in respect before their cherished memory and offer our gratitude. May their souls rest in peace." İzmir Martyrs' Families Aid and Solidarity Association President Adil Ağın also thanked İMOK for organising this meaningful event.
Germirli Fastest in BornovaAt the end of the event, which was run over three runs, Taner Oruç from Bursa in a Citroen Saxo VTS took the win in Category 1, Alper Akgün from İzmir in a Honda Civic Type-R EP3 won Category 2, and Ayhan Germirli from İzmir in a Renault Clio II Sport won Category 3. Germirli also set the best run of the day with a time of 03:27.465, earning the special award presented by İzmir Martyrs' Families Aid and Solidarity Association President Adil Ağın.
