Berkay Besler Wins in Germany

On Sunday 12 April, national driver Berkay Besler added another major success to the list by flying the Turkish flag high at the ADAC Open in Germany.
Representing Turkey in the Senior category at the 1,222-metre Prokart Raceland circuit in Wackersdorf, in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd, Besler was consistently at the top in Heat 1 and Heat 2. Starting second in the 16-lap pre-final, Besler dropped to sixth at the start, but produced a superb performance to pass rivals one by one and take the lead on lap 6. Holding that advantage all the way to the flag, Besler won the semi-final, contested by 34 fast drivers, with a time of 13:59.438. The home drivers Christopher Dreyspring and Andre Matisic followed.
A Breathless Final and a Big Result
The final, which saw 32 drivers from different countries fight for victory, was truly breathtaking. Besler led early on before dropping to second on lap 4. While trying to pass a rival on lap 5, Besler fell back to fourth, but kept composure and, focused on winning, fought back up the order again. Retaking the lead on lap 9, Besler did not allow the rivals to catch up. The final was ended after 12 laps because of an accident further back in the field, and Besler took the chequered flag first with a time of 9:40.216, adding another win to the record.
German driver Andre Matisic finished second, with Austria's Mick Wishofer third. Besler, who was among the top three drivers from five continents in France in recent weeks, could not hide the joy of the winner's trophy won in Germany. After the victory, Besler said: "I am extremely proud to have had our national anthem played abroad once again and to have brought my country such a success."
