Zafer Vatansever Cup Gets Under Way at Rally Aegean

Held in memory of Yusuf Aramacı, Renç Koçibey and Ali Sipahi over the past three years respectively, the TOSFED Rally Cup is this season run in memory of motorsport stalwart and TOSFED Sports Commission member Zafer Vatansever.
The Obel Cıvata 29th Aegean Rally, held on 13-14 April with 25 crews, opened the cup. İlhan Mutluay-Cumhur Önder (Citroen C2) took the overall win and Category 2 victory, Murat Güray-Bora Yakın (Fiat Palio) finished second overall and won Category 4, while Özcan Söke-Barkın Şahin, representing Castrol Ford Team Türkiye in a Ford Fiesta ST, took third overall and the Category 3 win. Kemal Çetinkaya-Onurcan Şirin won Category 1 in a Fiat Palio.
In Category 1, Erdal Oral-Engin Uslu from Izmir took second in a Fiat Palio, with third going to Tan-Selda Çağlayan, who began competing this season in a Peugeot 205 1.6 GTI. In Category 2, behind the Mutluay-Önder crew, Bursa's Ersen Yıldız-Levent Tuncer took second in a Ford Fiesta ST. Third in this category went to Murat Şen-Ersin Ören, who had a difficult start to the rally in a Peugeot 106 GTI. In Category 3, which was won by Özcan Söke, the podium was made up entirely of Ford Fiesta STs. Önder Akcengiz-Evren Altunlu from Ankara reached the finish in second, while Izmir's Levent Şapcılar-Deniz Gümüş took third.
In the veterans' class, Category 4, behind Murat Güray, the experienced stage-hand Yüksel Özgür took the runner-up trophy in a Peugeot 306 S16, co-driven by Ersin Tunç. Izmir's Ayhan Germirli delighted his fans by finishing a rally for the first time in a long while, in a Renault Clio Sport co-driven by Mustafa Nazik. Astonishment was written all over Germirli's face on the finish podium, and the long, blank stare he gave the medal he had won did not go unnoticed.

The Zafer Vatansever Rally Cup will continue with the ESOK Rally, to be held in Eskişehir on 15-16 June...
