Kartepe Hill Climb Takes the Breath Away

The second round of the AVIS 2022 Turkish Hill Climb Championship was held in the Kartepe district of Kocaeli on 4-5 June 2022, with 25 competitors taking part across 4 categories. Organised by the Kocaeli Automobile Sports Club (KOSDER) with the support of ICRYPEX, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality and Kartepe Municipality, the event began on Saturday with a start ceremony in Kartepe square.
On Sunday 5 June, over a 6-kilometre course run in 3 runs, İlker Aktaş took the win in Category 1 in an Opel Corsa GSI for Ülkü Motorsport, while Sevcan Sağıroğlu in a Fiat Palio finished second and Süleyman Yanar, also in a Fiat Palio, took third to complete the podium. In Category 2, Cem Yudulmaz of the Ülkü Motorsport team was the fastest driver of the day in a Ford Fiesta R2T, with Kaan Kara second in a Fiat Palio for Ülkü Motorsport and Evren Girgin third in a Subaru Impreza.
In Category 3, Ahmet Keskin, driving an Opel Corsa OPC for Neo Motorsport, added victory at Kartepe to his earlier win at Buharkent. Nizamettin Kaynak was second in a Renault Sport Clio, while Murat Soyçopur, competing in a Renault Clio R3 for GP Garage My Team, took third.
In Category 4, Cem Yalın of GP Garage My Team took the win in a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX, also setting the fastest time of the day with 03:23.12. From the same team, Sinan Soylu finished the day second, also in a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX, while Kemal Şener, in another Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX, took third. The Ülkü Motorsport team won the Best Team award for the event.
The AVIS 2022 Turkish Hill Climb Championship will continue with the third round, organised by the Bursa Automobile Sports Club (BOSSEK) at Gemlik Şahintepe on 2-3 July.
