Historic Runners Open the Season at Rally Bodrum

The historic rally class of the opening round of the Shell Helix 2022 Turkish Rally Championship, Rally Bodrum, open to classic rally cars over 30 years old, took place with four crews entered. Parkur Racing's Üstün Üstünkaya – Kerim Tar, who finished the 2021 season as historic rally champions, made a quick start to the season in their Ford Escort MK II, taking both the overall win and the Category 2 win. The father-and-son crew of Ömer Gür – Levent Gür, backed by Köşem Balık Restaurant and Bob Burger and driving a Murat 131, finished second overall and won Category 1 to take to the podium, with Ömer completing his first experience as a driver on the podium. The Bursa-based crew of Onur Çelikyay – Serdar Canbek, competing in a Murat 124 backed by the legendary Uludağ Gazoz, finished third overall and second in Category 1, securing valuable points. Meanwhile, Cengiz Artam, one of the most experienced names in the paddock, who returned to rallying after a long break, started Rally Bodrum alongside Hakkı Tolunay but failed to reach the finish after a mechanical problem struck their Ford Escort MK1 on the second run through the Telmessos stage.
