Young Drivers Take the Wheel at Aegean Rally

The excitement in the 2018 Turkish Rally Championship continues in Izmir from 13-15 July 2018 with the NG Kütahya Seramik 28th Aegean Rally… Around 50 cars are expected to take part in the event, which will award points not only to the Turkish Rally Championship but also to the Turkish Historic Rally Championship and the Ali Sipahi Rally Cup.
The rally is also the opening round of the Fiat Egea Young Drivers' Cup, where the young competitors who finished in the top three places of the 2017 season of the TOSFED Is Looking for Its Star project – Onat Telkenar, Emre Şentürk and Mert Kaya – will sit their first major test, competing in Fiat Egea 1.4 T-Jet cars with the support of TOSFED and Fiat.
Onat Telkenar will compete with another young driver from a karting background, Efe Eryalaz, as co-driver, while Emre Şentürk will have senior executive Mesut Şafak Doğan in the right-hand seat, and Mert Kaya will be joined by Tunahan Aktaş, one of the finalists of TOSFED Is Looking for Its Star. Hasan Tansu, Berk Durak and Buğra Can Kılıç will be the other young drivers contesting the cup.
The young drivers received two days of rally training at the TOSFED Körfez Race Track from experienced drivers and co-drivers of the FIAT Motorsport team, learning about everything from pace note writing and administrative rules to scrutineering and vehicle dynamics. After drawing lots to determine which cars they would drive, they completed the programme with pace note and driving technique training on the track.
The Egea Hatchback rally cars, built at the Tofaş factory in Bursa and powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine, produce 160 bhp and 250 Nm of torque…
